Writer’s block comes to us all at some point, whether we’ve been writing for five minutes or five years.
There are some days when the blank page is the scariest thing in the world. We’d rather do anything than write. Wash up. Mow the lawns. Wash our hair. Stare at the walls. Anything that doesn’t involve writing.
We start to doubt our ability to write, and worse, doubt ourselves.
The longer we spend in that cycle, the harder it becomes to get out of it.
Sometimes the cause is obvious: looming deadlines. Plot holes you’ve dug yourself into. Family problems. Stress. Depression. Anxiety. Illness. All these things and more can get in the way of our writing process and stop us from writing more, and writing better.
It wasn’t too long ago that I was there myself. I’d sit in the dark, writing by candlelight, pulling out my hair because the words just wouldn’t come.
But it doesn’t have to be that way!
